Fiery Recollection

Susie: I remember that day....A long time ago...I was just a young'un. I didn't know anything about the outside world, but I didn't care. I was worried free. My pa was a loving and heartwarming gentleman. He never raised his voice, hurt another person, and he gave me my first horse, her name was Eagle. We called her that on a count on how fast she can run. I loved her and she loved me. She was mostly the only best friend I had. Anything I did for her, she would return the favor. We went in so many races and she would win so many trophies. I tamed her, groomed her, petted her, and decorated her stable for her.

One night, I decided to go meet with Eagle so that I can groom her. Inside I got tired and I was reluctant to fall asleep. Unfortunately, I slept in the barn. Then I woke up to a smell of smoke. I opened my eyes and saw...the barn was catching fire! I was blinded by the smoke, coughing and wheezing...The exit was opened but then...debris fell right on top of me...I thought I was done for....that is until....I saw her....Eagle, trying to get me out. She was pulling at my shirt, grabbing it by her teeth to help me get out. I was inhaling the fumes of the fire...I thought I was gonna die.

Eagle freed me from the debris and I ran out...I opened all the gates to release the animals and opened for the last one, Eagle to get out...but at last glance Eagle was stuck herself. When I tried to step out, the farm was already collapsing...and Eagle perished, along with it. My best friend saved my life, but at a cost...I was able to save all the animals in the barn....all except Eagle...she saved me, but I didn't return the favor...I was too late to save her....Eagle....I'm so sorry...
